The Jump a Thon to support the American Heart Association will take place during specials time. Therefore, Second Graders will be jumping at 10:15am this Friday, February 10th. Be sure to check in at the office before going to the gym to watch your student! Continue sending in your donations and hearts for who your student is jumping for :)
NWEA
We will be taking the Science portion of the NWEA (www.nwea.org) this week. We will be taking this Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Make sure your student has a good breakfast Friday morning!
Addition Facts Practice
Try to have your Second grader practice their Addition Facts a few times a week along with other homework. By the end of Second Grade, students should be able to answer 70 problems in 5 minutes. If you would like a copy of the Timed Tests to practice at home, please let me know and I will be happy to send them home. Or use Fact Triangles, Flash Cards, or go to our Math Links. Addition practice can be found on most of those links and it makes practicing fun!
Arcademics
This past week I registered for students to have their own logins for the Arcademics link (Math links). This is an awesome site that has multiplayer games which really pushes their motivation! The neat part for me, is that I can see what games students play, how they score, and I can assign specific games to certain students depending on their individual strengths and weaknesses. On Thursday, we played 2 games of Dolphin Dash (counting money) and they loved it! These can be accessed at home also. I have cards at school with student logins on them, but you may want to start one at home too (KidBlog, Arcademics, and coming soon: Storybird). I try to make them all similar but it is going to be hard for them to remember them all. If you need me to send those to you, just let me know!
Project Groundhog
We have officially begun Project Groundhog. Our class groundhog (Porkchop) went outside with us on Thursday and did NOT see his shadow, which means he predicts an early spring! Now, we will be tracking the weather each day to see if he is correct by watching the change in temperature and weather displayed. We will be sharing our data with 5 other teams across the U.S.A. and Canada to compare their weather to ours as well. Stay tuned!
Happy 1/2 Birthday to Garrett on Friday!
