Friday is Veteran's Day. Every year, I like to have my class take the time to think about and thank those who have served in our military. I am asking you to send in names of family members or close friends that are Veterans that we can direct our Thank You cards and letters to. I will then send these home with your student to distribute to the Veterans you know. Email me a list or send in a list with names, title, and what branch of the mililtary they served in. If you know someone who would like to come in and speak to the class this Friday as well, please contact me! Thanks for your help with this special project :)
Spelling City Test
You may have noticed that the Spelling Test your student brought home last week was a bit different. I am going to try something new and alternate our Spelling Test Versions. Every week I will alternate between the "normal" handwritten way and the Spelling City version. Spelling City is done individually on the netbooks. It says the word and a sentence, and the students can have it repeat the word as many times as they want. Then, they type the word and a printout of their score is sent home with you. This is a simple and easy way to incorporate typing into our Spelling practice :)
Toys at School
There has been an increase of toys (Pokemon Cards, toy figurines, cars, etc) in the classroom over the past few weeks. I understand that students bring things on the bus to occupy their time with, but if these come into the classroom the students know that I will take them. If your student has had their toy taken away by me please contact me that you would like them back and I will be happy to return them. Please have the conversation with your student that these should stay in their backpack and do not come out unless they are on the bus. These are a distraction to our learning. Thanks for your cooperation with this matter.
We have a field trip today (Monday) to the Mendel Center to see the play 'John Henry.' Please make sure your student is dressed in nice attire for this performance. We will leave at 9:15 and should return around 12pm just in time for lunch. Thank you to our Parent Chaperones who have volunteered :) Meet us at the LMC Mendel Center by 9:45 for the 10:00 performance.
Headphones Donation Please
If you have any headphones (NOT earbuds) that you would like to donate to our classroom we would be very appreciative! We have earbuds, but they do not fit very nicely in our little ears :(
LAST Day of Swimming
This Wednesday, November 9th is our LAST day of swimming :)
Reading Unit Test
Your student will be bringing home our Unit 1 Reading Test this week. This test will happen about 5 other times and it is VERY cumbersome. It is a great way though, to see how students do reading a test to themselves and comprehending the questions. Please look over this test with your student and review the questions they got wrong so they can improve for the next test. These happen at the end of each Reading Unit which is every 5 stories. This week we are on Story 2 of Unit 2.
Scholastic Book Order
I will not be doing a Scholastic Book Order this month since there is a Book Fair next week during Conference Week. The next book order will be sent home at the beginning of December.
Your official Conference appointment time will be sent home Tuesday. Please confirm by sending back the bottom portion. If the time you are given does not work, you will indicate that on the Conference slip and we will find another time that works for you. I look forward to meeting with all of you :)
Happy Birthday to Abby on Saturday!
Happy Birthday to Hunter on Sunday!
