Reading Homework
I am so excited to begin meeting with Guided Reading groups this week! This means that your First Grader will begin bringing books home to read with you. You will notice that they have a special "Reading Bag" which will contain 1-3 books. They are to bring this back to school the following day, just like their Red Folder. They will be bringing a new set of books home 1-2x per week depending on when I meet with their group. Keep in mind that some of these books will be "hot" meaning we read them in class, and some will be "cold" meaning they are BRAND new reads for them. These two types of reads will help their fluency throughout the year while building on their interest of reading :) Happy Reading! (Keep your eye out for Reading Logs NEXT week)
Daily Reader
After Lunch/Recess each day, we start with a D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language) and listen to the Daily Reader while making fixes. These past few weeks I have been the reader. Well, now I would like these First Graders to have a chance to read to the class! I encourage students to bring ONE book from home (meaning they have read this a few times with you) so that I can add them to the Daily Reader list. Books will be kept in a safe spot until it is your child's day to read. When they finish the book, they will bring it home and are welcome to bring a NEW book that they also have read a few times at home. This is a wonderful opportunity to begin building on that reading confidence! This begins NOW :) I look forward to seeing what books your First Grade would like to read to us!
Grading Rubric
As you see papers I have checked come home to you, you will see that I am using the Learning Target Rubric which was discussed at Curriculum Night. As a reminder this is:
1: This is tricky for me
2: I can do it with help
3: I can do it all by myself
4: I can do it and tell you more
We will be using this in class as well for students to communicate with me how they are feeling about the Learning Targets that day.
Needed: Volunteer to Type Class Directory
I am looking for a volunteer willing to type up the Directory for our class so that I can get those home to you. Let me know if you are interested in this task! Thanks :)
Popcorn Thursdays
Popcorn Thursdays have begun! Popcorn is $0.25 each and a maximum of two bags may be bought with only one being eaten at school. Please show your student a safe spot in their backpack to hold onto coins so they are not misplaced.
Water Bottles Request
I am asking that Water Bottles sent in have an easy pop up top so that your First Grader can easily close/open. Some screw tops are being left open because they are difficult for them to open. Therefore, we have had a few spills already. Thanks for your help in this matter!
*Weekly Homework* (Always due Friday)
