*Spelling: This week is a review week so we will NOT be having a test and you will notice that the Spelling Homework has more than just 5 words. These are all familiar from the past few weeks so practice all or the ones you feel your student needs the most practice with. I have put the Spelling Words for next week (April 21-25) on the sidebar for Spelling just in case you want to start practicing those earlier.
*Math: The Fluency Test this week will take place on THURSDAY since we do not have school on Friday.
*Homework and The Great Poetry Race: Again, since we do not have school on Friday these will be due on THURSDAY.
Reading Response Pages
I will begin sending home Response Pages with all reading groups this week. This is a purple page found in your student's home reading bag. It includes: title of books, book rating, comprehension strategy, and new/interesting words. Each week this will be another component to the reading they are doing at home which reflects the conversations about reading we have in the classroom. We will complete some of it in class and the rest should be completed at home. I will collect when I meet with their reading group the following week! Let the conversations begin :)
The Great Poetry Race Week 1
The first week of The Great Poetry Race went awesome! Most students participated in some way and turned in their pages with signatures on Friday. Way to go! I hope that you enjoyed listening to your First Grader read the poem of the week to you and that you noticed how they got better each time it was read aloud :) Every week I will post on KidBlog the "winner" reading the poem. Feel free to comment as always! The winner(s) last week were Juliet and Aubrey!

Earth Day
Tuesday, April 22 is Earth Day and Salem Elementary will be going GREEN! We are asking students to wear GREEN on this day as a reminder to take care of our Earth every day :) In addition, we are inviting students to participate in a *Waste Free Lunch.* Have your student brainstorm and help pack a lunch where they create No Trash on this day! You may even realize that there are ways you can have a waste free lunch every day!
Padlet on Earth Day: Reuse
Thank you for all the responses to last week's Padlet on *REDUCE.* The conversation will be continued and this week we will be discussing: How to REUSE. If you get the chance, please have your First Grader (family members can respond too!) respond to how they reuse in order to help the Earth.
