It's a great time of year to be thankful for the blessings we each have, but to also remember that not everyone has the same blessings as us. This week I am inviting our classroom families to give to a local children's home, The Methodist Children's Home Society located in Redford. This home has been serving the community for 96 years and gives a safe haven for abused and neglected children. Below is a flyer for the donations we will be collecting until Monday, December 16th. This will also be sent home with your students after I explain the project to them. I will be dropping these items off as well as taking pictures so that students can see the full vision of our project of giving. Thanks for participating in this kids to kids giving project!
Career Day/When I Grow Up Day
To wrap up our Economics unit for Social Studies, the First Grades will be hosting a Career Day with parent volunteers AND a "When I Grow Up" dress up day! These notes will be coming home with your student this week, so keep your eyes open for:
-When I Grow Up Report (due Tuesday, December 17)
-When I Grow Up dress up day (Tuesday, December 17)
-Career Day (Tuesday, December 17 and Wednesday, December 18) <--space is limited so send your slip back ASAP if you are interested in teaching students about your career :)
Holiday Party
Holiday Party Planning is in full swing! This will take place on Friday, December 20th @ 2:30-3:30 and is hosted by Mrs. Williams (Sophie's mom). We are still in need of volunteers to help with stations at the party and to put together the goody bags (goody bag items are already taken care of). Please contact her or I if you wish to help out in any way :)
Don't forget the Sideblog
Remember that the sideblog (to the right of the blog) has helpful information such as: Student of the Week, Habits of Mind Spotlight, Weekly Homework, Weekly Specials/Events, Spelling Words, Fact Fluency for the Week, Friendly Reminders, and Upcoming Events. Let me know if there is something not on there that you think would be helpful!
Stars and Wishes for your First Grader
On Monday your student will be bringing home a Small Moment writing piece that we have been writing and revising with a partner! Read the attached sheet which has your student's Stars and Wishes and then respond with your own Stars (things you think they did well) and Wishes (goals you have for them). They are so proud of these, so enjoy and share!
Coming Soon:Flashlight Friday!
Just wanted to give a heads up as you are out doing holiday shopping for your First Graders. Starting in January, we will be having "Flashlight Friday" every Friday during Readers' Workshop time :) We will dim the lights and read with our own flashlights! Keep your eyes open for deals on a flashlight that your student can bring to school on Fridays to spice up our Readers' Workshop. Also, if you would like to donate any extra flashlights to the classroom for backups when students forget I am happy to accept those. More info to come in January...
