I have been recently notified that we now have a nut allergy in the classroom. Please be conscientious of this when sending in birthday treats and snacks with your student. More information and a detailed list of Nut Free options will be coming home with your First Grader this week.
Picture Day
Picture Day is this Wednesday, September 24th. If you need another picture order form sent home, please let me know!
Conference Sign Up
If you were unable to sign up for November conferences at Curriculum Night, the signups will remain in the main hallway near the office for a few weeks. Please take the time time to stop by and sign up so that we can chat about your awesome First Grader on November 11th or 13th. If you are unable to come into the school to do this, please contact me with your availability and I am happy to sign up for you.
Home-Thinking Begins
We are going to slowly transition into sending home some thinking for your First Grader to complete. As mentioned at Curriculum Night, this will always be sent home on Monday and should return by the following Friday of that week. This will involve some adult guidance, but should be completed by your First Grader. If any home thinking throughout the year takes longer than 30 minutes, either have them take a break or come back to it the next day. This time should not be stressful and instead be more of a parent/child connection from the classroom into your home. Spread it throughout the week as needed so that it does not become too cumbersome for your First Grader and so that they still have time to "be a kid" after school!
This week the home thinking is brainstorming a list of "small moments" your child has experienced. A small moment is an event that may be small, but can be stretched across several pages. For example: A time I lost my tooth. This will be kept in their Writer's Workshop folders to help out when they are not sure what to write about that day. Thanks for your support with this!
Popcorn Thursdays
This Thursday starts the weekly tradition of Popcorn Thursdays! Every Thursday, students may purchase popcorn for 25 cents a bag. They may not purchase more than 2 bags, and only 1 may be eaten at school. Mark your calendars!
Business Buddy Invite
Do you have a career that you would like to share with students? South Lyon Community Schools has a wonderful volunteer program called Business Buddies. This program brings real life careers into the classroom that connect with district curriculum. If you are interested in being a Business Buddy, let me know and I will get you in contact with the coordinator!
Volunteer in the Classroom
If you have not gotten a chance yet to sign up to be a volunteer in the classroom, this will be the last week to pass along your availability for the year to me. You can find the sign up on the Parent page of our classroom website: http://wilsonh.weebly.com/parents.html
If anything changes with your volunteer availability throughout the year, just get in contact with me!
