Math Fact Fluency Tests
Students will receive their +0 & +1 fact test back on Monday. If your child did not pass with Mastery (90% or 18/20) they will have an opportunity to retake the test on Wednesday. This week we will test on the -0 & -1 facts :) Some helpful ways to practice these at home are using flashcards or online links. Here are some of my favorites which can all be found on our classroom website:

Scholastic Book Clubs
The October Scholastic book order came home with your First Grader on Friday. I also sent an introduction email out to everyone with our class activation code if you would like to order online. This information can always be found on our classroom website on the Scholastic Book Clubs page. You may order online OR send in order forms with payment into school with your student. (No Cash please, only check or money order). Orders are due by this Friday, October 9th.
Fancy Writing Pens
In Writer's Workshop we use pens for our writing pieces. We use these for two reasons: they can't erase what they wrote so I can see ALL their thinking AND this teaches them the importance of slowing down to think while we write. I gave each of them school supplied blue pens, BUT I am inviting students to bring in their own fancy writing pens if they would like :) The ink color does not matter and this is not required, but ask your child (if they haven't asked you already!) if they would like to bring in a Fancy Writing Pen :)
Fall Festival Raffle Baskets
A yellow note was sent home with your child last week describing PTO's annual raffle basket fundraiser. This is one of many ways that PTO raises money for our school to provide us with technology, curriculum supplements, assemblies and much more. The First Grade theme is ART.
Please send in donations by October 16.
Some ideas for the basket are: crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils, glitter, paper, foam shapes, popsicle sticks, or chalk.
Happy Birthday to Lylah on October 4th!
