Wow! Those 4 days of First Grade flew by :) In that short amount of time we practiced classroom/school procedures, got to know each other, learned our goodbye poem and tiptoed into classroom tasks. Your First Graders are some incredible learners and this year is going to be AMAZING to say the least! I have begun posting pictures to our Twitter/Facebook for you to see some extra updates on what we have been doing this week. MANY of you have already found us on these communication tools and I have received email confirmation from most of you. If you have not received an email from me this past week, let me know, I may have your email incorrect...THANK YOU for the overwhelming amount of school supplies! We are all set for now and I will let you know if we ever need anything else as the year goes on via email/blog.
*A quick note about the blog post: This will be updated weekly and sent to you via email as a reminder that I have updated it for you to read about the upcoming week. If you read this on your phone, be sure to scroll all the way down after the post to see the SideBlog notes such as Student of the Week, Home Thinking, and Important Reminders.
Water Bottles/Snacks
Since we do not have a drinking fountain in the classroom, water bottles may be kept in the classroom. Please make sure they are labeled so that your students' bottle does not get mixed up with another student. If your child would like to have water at lunch also, you may want to send in a separate water bottle so that they don't run out before the end of the day.
Please send in a healthy, *NUT FREE* snack for your student every day to serve as brain food mid-morning. If you would like, you may also send in an afternoon snack, which students can have before dismissal once they are packed up for the end of the day.
First Grade Directory
You should have received a permission slip in your First Grader's Red Folder about publishing contact information in the First Grade Directory. If you would like your student's contact information published, please return by this Friday, September 18th. In addition, if you have misplaced yours and would like another one sent home, please let me know.
Padlet Post
On the homepage of our classroom website, there is a neat communication tool called Padlet which we will use to practice communication skills using technology. I welcome you to do this with your student at home as we do not always have time in class. Just double click, have your First Grader type in their first name, and let them type a quick response. We will also be sharing our thoughts on this during Morning Meeting throughout the week! Let me know of any questions/concerns that arise when using this tool. (let your student do most of the typing to encourage independence and growth with communicating via technology) Parents, feel free to add your own thinking to the Padlet as well! They will love to read what you wrote :)
Volunteer Information
Something new this year is that all volunteers in South Lyon Schools must have a completed background check on file. Click below to fill out the online form. Paper copies are available upon request. I highly recommend doing this so that you can sign up for volunteer opportunities this school year. The sooner you do this, the sooner you can volunteer as the process does take some time. I will give more information and have signups at Curriculum Night for those interested.
