Summer Ideas
Did you know that children who do not read or have access to books over the summer lose up to 2 months of reading performance? No matter where your child may be, if they do not keep their brain active over the summer, they can lose much of the skills they worked so hard for over the school year. Don't let this happen to your student! Here are some ideas that can easily be added to your summer to keep your student's brain active and ready for 2nd Grade:
- Our Classroom Website: the links your student has been able to access all summer will be available ALL summer. Feel free to have them practice math skills, log into WriteAbout, read on Raz Kids, continuing to practice Coding (Code.org), etc.
- Reading Challenges: There are MANY ways to challenge and keep your student reading all summer. First, is the Salem Elementary Summer Reading program. Some other ones are through: The Salem-South Lyon Library, Barnes & Noble, and Scholastic. These links can all be found on the Parent Links Page: Summer To Do Links
- Easy at Home Supplements: Some great resources that are laid out for you but yet are still flexible to fit your busy/relaxing summer schedule are: Wonderopolis, Math During Road Trips, and SpellingCity. These can all be found on the Parent Links Page: Summer To Do Links
- Structured Camps/Summer Programs: If you are looking for something a bit more structured some options are: South Lyon Area Youth Assistance Summer Program, Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program or G.R.A.S.P. (mailed to you, not in GR), and Scootpad Summer Program. These links can be found on the Parent Links Page: Summer To Do Links
