Fundraiser Orders with money are due MONDAY, OCTOBER 18th! Please turn in orders promptly :)
Starting this week, all students will begin AR! They will be allowed to have 1 AR book out at a time in addition to 1 other Library book of choice. Before taking the AR test, each student will need to read the book they choose Twice to themselves and Once to an Adult. After the First Card Marking, we will decide what the AR Points Goal will be for the upcoming Card Marking. They will be expected to reach this goal by end of the 2nd Card Marking. I will send more information home about this in the next few weeks. Happy Reading!
We have been easing ourselves into incorporating the Daily 5 into our Readers' Workshop time. This is a method of instruction designed by Washington teachers Gail Boushey and Joan Moser to teach students to be Independent and Self-Motivated during a Readers' Workshop. The Daily 5 Elements are : Read to Self, Work on Writing, Read to a Friend, Word Work and Listen to Reading. We will be introduced to the last of the 5, Listen to Reading this week. Ask your students to explain more to you about what they are expected of during each Daily 5. More information about this can be found if you go to the Parents Page and then click on Language Arts under Curriculum Support. We are loving it so far!
Students are expected to complete a certain number of Daily 5 Elements per week. Starting next week, you will receive the chart they fill out throughout the week to see what they have been doing in Readers' Workshop!
Social Studies Unit 1 Test
We will review on Wednesday and then start our Unit 1 Test on Thursday. We have been learning about Communities, Customs, Traditions and much more over the past several weeks.
Math Unit 2 Test
We will be reviewing on Wednesday and take our Unit 2 test on Thursday for Math. We have been practicing Addition and Subtraction Facts for this past Unit. I PROMISE (it slipped my mind for the Unit 1 Test) I will send home your student's Math Boxes from the past Unit for you to go over with them. I usually grade these on a Daily basis and mark in my gradebook. This way you can see how they have been progressing in addition to the Home Links that have been coming home.
This is a Review week of Spelling Words. This also means we will be taking a Reading Assessment throughout the week and will not have a Main Story Selection for the week.
Happy Birthday to Nikki on Monday!
