Back to School Night is on Tuesday, from 6:30-7:30. This is an Open House style night where you come with your Second Grader and THEY will show you around our classroom and anywhere else you choose to visit. I will have a packet of information for you which should answer any questions you may have so far. We will have our Interactive Whiteboard setup with a game to play with your second grader as well :) I can't wait to chat with all of you!
Reading Homework Starts Today
Starting this week, students will be bringing home a Reading Log to be filled out Mon-Thurs and hopefully at least one weekend day! Students may choose the books they read. It may be a book from the classroom, a library book or a book from home. They should read for 15 minutes and then you will sign the Reading Log. On Wednesdays, they will all bring home our Treasures book to read our story of the week that goes with our Reading Curriculum. Please return books from school the next day so as to not misplace them at home. The Reading Logs will be in the back pocket of their Homework Folder. It should STAY there so it does not get lost! I will check these each morning and give them stickers for responsibility.
Spelling Test Friday
Friday will be our very first Second Grade Spelling Test! The Spelling List was sent home on Friday with a note on the back explaining some ways of practicing them at home. We will do SOME studying at school, but spelling words should mainly be practiced at home. The list can also be found on our classroom website by going to the Spelling City link. Have fun and I can't wait to see how great we do on Friday :)
NWEA Testing
We begin NWEA (North West Evaluation Association) testing this week which will take place in the Computer Lab. This test will be given twice a year to show academic growth each school year. Students will be tested in Math, Reading, Language, and Science. The scores will be shared with you once I have had a chance to analyze the data for classroom planning. This week we will be tested on Tuesday (1:30-2:30) and Wednesday (8:45-9:45). It is very important that students have a nutritious breakfast these days so they can do their best :)
Morning Pledge
Mrs. Graves has asked our class to start the pledge this week! Every morning 5 students from our classroom will go down to introduce themselves, tell a joke, and say the pledge over the announcement speaker. We are so excited and brainstormed a few of our favorite jokes on Friday. We hope to start the school day with a good laugh!
Library Books Due Friday
Every Friday we will have Library from 8:25-8:55. Please help your Second Grader remember to bring those back to school so that they may check out new books for the week.
Have a fantastic week and I will see you on Tuesday for Back to School Night!
