Project Groundhog
A note will be coming home this week explaining a project the First Grades will be taking on. This project will be an introduction to our future Weather unit. Keep your eye out for this note and plan on checking in on Punxsutawney Phil's shadow status this Saturday. The following Monday we will begin to track the weather and see if a groundhog really CAN predict when Spring arrives ;)
Math Facts
I test students that have turned their Ready to Try Math Facts on Math Workshop Days (Tuesday-Thursday). Please continue to send these in (one at a time) when your student is ready for a new math fact test. There are some great links on the Student Links page for students to practice Math Fact Fluency in addition to the flashcard practice you are doing at home. Math Fact fluency is essential to math success as they get older so thank you for taking the time to help us get your students ready :)
Flashlight Friday
This Friday is our first "Flashlight Friday"! Yes, we will be using flashlights during Readers' Workshop every Friday! Send in a flashlight with your First Grader every Friday and we will have the lights turned down to get cozy in our reading nooks while reading with a flashlight :)
Wallwisher
The Habit of Mind for January is: Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision. Help your First Grader post to the classroom Wallwisher to join the conversation!
