The First 7 Days
Wow! Those 7 days of First Grade flew by :) In that short amount of time we practiced classroom/school procedures, got to know each other, learned our classroom pledge and goodbye poem, and tip-toed into patterns, handwriting practice, and reading to ourselves to name just a few. Your First Graders are some incredible learners and this year is going to be AMAZING to say the least! And here...we...go!
Water Bottles
Since we do not have a drinking fountain in the classroom, water bottles may be kept on student tables during the day. If your child would like to have water at lunch also, please send in a SEPARATE water bottle to make the transition to and from lunch easier for them. We go to lunch right after specials most days and do not have time to stop at the classroom. Thanks for helping with this!
Morning and Afternoon Snacks
Please send in a healthy, nut-free snack for your student every day to serve as brain food mid-morning. If you would like, you may also send in an afternoon snack which students can have before dismissal once they are packed up for the end of the day.
Fall Conference Sign-Up
If you did not notice during Curriculum Night, there are posters displayed in the main hallway for families to sign up for Fall Conferences. Please take a moment next time you are in the building to sign up for yours if you haven't done so already.
WallWisher Post
On the homepage of our classroom website, there is a neat tool called WallWisher which we will use on a weekly basis to practice typing skills and also share thought-provoking topics with each other. In the next few weeks, I will have a system in place for students to do this during the day on our classroom computers. Until then, it would be great to start getting your student into the routine of posting on here with your assistance. Just double click, have them type in their first name, and type a quick response. We will also be sharing our thoughts during Morning Meeting throughout the week!
Learning Targets
We are slowly transitioning into knowing our daily learning targets for Math, Reading, Writing and Habits of Mind. This week we will also be starting to use the rubric to rate our individual understanding of these Targets (1=This is tricky for me, 2=I can do it with help, 3=I can do it all by myself, 4=I can do it and tell you more). I will be sharing these with you when I find the best way to do so. Please be patient during this work in progress :)

Keep your eye for a note going home this week asking for your permission to publish student information in a First Grade Directory. More information will follow.
