We need just a few more empty cereal boxes. Please send in any you may have for our Valentine's Day Mailboxes :)
Project Groundhog
As a prequel to our Weather Unit in May, we will be taking on the role of Meteorologists for the next few weeks. This Sunday, February 2, is Groundhog Day! We will briefly discuss the history of the holiday and will then begin collecting data about the temperature and weather type to decide if: A. Groundhogs really can predict the weather and B. Decide if it is "Spring" in 6 weeks. I am asking families to check the news on Sunday, February 2 to see what Punxsutawney Phil's prediction is so that we can begin this weather data collection journey on the following Monday. Thanks for your help with Project Groundhog!
Reading Comprehension
As we begin the second of half of First Grade, we will be continuing to work on our growth as readers. Part of this is checking for comprehension of what we have read while also reading fluently. As you read with your First Grader, I encourage you to have discussions with them about the books they read. Ask them: Who, What, Where, When, Why questions or have them retell the story to you. This week we will be focusing on: Text to Self connections. Students will be discussing how stories we read remind them of their own lives. Happy Reading!
Valentine Party
Ms. Smith (Connor's Mom) has graciously volunteered to organize our Valentine Party which takes place February 14th @ 2:30-3:30. A note about the party needs will be coming home with your First Grader this week. Please contact her or I with any questions or comments you may have about the party.
