I have invited your First Graders to begin bringing a book of choice from home that they would like to read to the class. On Mondays-Thursday after Lunch/Recess, students have the opportunity to read to the class. This must be a book from home that they have read at least 1x before that they feel confident with. These books will be placed in the Daily Reader Bin and will remain there until it is their day to read. If a student does not finish the book they are reading, they are welcome to be added back to the Daily Reader list to continue another time! This is a great way to build a strong reading community in our classroom and I look forward to seeing your student shine :)
Writing Pens
We are getting into the swing of things especially with Writer's Workshop. One way I like to add a little twist to Writing is by allowing students to use "pens" during Writer's Workshop. I find this beneficial because students love using them and they can't erase anything therefore allowing me to truly see all of their writing capabilities. I have pens provided by the school for them, BUT if students would like to bring in a "special" writing pen of their choice, they are welcome to! This will be kept in their pencil box for use during WW or choice time.
Zoo Field Trip
The First Grades will taking a trip to the Detroit Zoo on October 15th from 9:00am-2:00pm. Permission slips and notes will be coming home with your student on Monday. Please return permission slips/money by October 1st. Additionally, please reply on the permission slip if you would like to chaperone the trip and send in your money as well. We will be taking all available chaperones :)
Does your Student Know How to...
-How to tie their shoes?
-When their birthday is? (month, date, year)
-What their address is? (including city)
If not, these may be helpful to practice throughout the First Grade school year!
