The Holiday shop is open this week from Tuesday-Thursday, before school, during lunch, and after school. Our class shopping day is on Wednesday afternoon. Please send the envelope with gift ideas and money to be used to school with your child on this day if you would like them to shop.
T'is the Season for Giving
It's a great time of year to be thankful for the blessings we each have, but to also remember that not everyone has the same blessings as us. The First Grade teachers are inviting classroom families to give to a local children's home, The Methodist Children's Home Society located in Redford. This home has been serving the community for 97 years and gives a safe haven for abused and neglected children. Below is a flyer for the donations we will be collecting until Friday, December 12th. I will be dropping these items off as well as taking pictures so that students can see the full vision of our project of giving. Thanks for participating in this kids to kids giving project!
Career Day/When I Grow Up Day
To wrap up our Economics unit for Social Studies, the First Grades will be hosting some Career Days with parent volunteers AND a "When I Grow Up" dress up day(this note will be coming home with homework this week)! Volunteer space is limited so if you are interested in teaching students about your career, please send in your slip by Wednesday, December 10th. These were sent home last week, but let me know if you need another one!
Meteorologist Visit
On Friday we have a meteorologist coming to visit our First Graders! His name is Derek Kevra, from Fox 2 News and I graduated from Stevenson High School with him. First Grade studies the weather towards the end of the year, so this will be a preview into our upcoming unit :)
Coming Soon:Flashlight Friday!
Just wanted to give a heads up as you are out doing holiday shopping for your First Graders. Starting in January, we will be having "Flashlight Friday" every Friday during Readers' Workshop time :) We will dim the lights and read with our own flashlights! Keep your eyes open for deals on a flashlight that your student can bring to school on Fridays to spice up our Readers' Workshop. Also, if you would like to donate any extra flashlights to the classroom for backups when students forget I am happy to accept those. More info to come in January...(try to keep this a secret from your First Grader until then if possible)
Happy Birthday to Olivia on December 14th!
