Earth Day is on Friday and we have a few special events:
*We invite students to wear GREEN as a reminder to us all to take care of our Earth EVERY DAY!
*Also, we invite students to participate in a *Waste Free* Snack and Lunch for Friday! Help your student brainstorm how to create NO TRASH on this day :) Hopefully you come up with ways to continue past Earth Day!
*Lastly, all First Grades will be cleaning up the Butterfly Garden! We will be weeding, cleaning up trash, planting flowers, making bird feeders, and more to spruce it up a bit :) A note telling more about this will be coming home this week. I am looking for 1-2 volunteers to help supervise between 1:15 and 2:15 on Friday. Let me know if you are interested in this :)
Report Cards
Report Cards will be sent home on Thursday. Just like in February, they will be sent home in envelopes. Please sign and return the envelope and keep all contents for yourself. I hope you have great conversations with your First Grader about their achievements this card marking!
The Great Poetry Race Week 1
The first week of The Great Poetry Race went awesome! Most students participated in some way and turned in their pages with signatures on Friday. Way to go! I hope that you enjoyed listening to your First Grader read the poem of the week to you and that you noticed how they got better each time it was read aloud :) Our winners from Week 1 were: 1st Place-Gabrielle, 2nd Place-Summer, and 3rd Place-Charlie! You can listen to them read by going to the padlet posted on our classroom homepage. Enjoy!
Passion Project
Something exciting is happening in our First Grade classroom! Last week I introduced your First Graders to the word *Passion* and about creating a Passion Project. We started with creating Heart Maps which got students thinking about what they love to do, what they are good at, and what interests them. We also listened to the story of 9-year-old Caine Monroy who created his own Passion Project of a cardboard arcade! (http://cainesarcade.com) Stay tuned for more information on this exciting endeavor we will be taking on these last few weeks of school :)
Happy Birthday to Quentin on April 20th!
