Spelling Menu Review
This week your student will have their new November Spelling Menu to choose how to practice their grade level words, however, it is a REVIEW week. This means there are no new words. Therefore, use this list as a way to practice the trickiest words and not ALL of the words. Have your student choose 5-10 of the trickiest words for them to work on. Let me know if you have any questions :)
Word Work Check
I will be pulling small groups this week and will check to see if they can write the words we have been practicing correctly. If they can write words from the past 4 weeks in a word work check correctly, we should be seeing these words spelled correctly in their everyday writing pieces as well. These Word Work checks will be sent home so that you can see your student's spelling progress. Let me know if you have any questions/comments!
Reading Logs/Bags
This week your student will begin bringing home a reading bag containing 2-3 books and a Monthly Reading Log. One of the ways we reinforce responsibility in the classroom is by students showing me they have done reading at home. The best way for me to know this is by an adult filling in their reading log every night with: WHO they read with OR the TITLE of the book(s) the read. Or you can do both if you choose. I check these daily and place stickers to show that I have seen this. Also, students earn a "clip up" in the morning by having this filled in. Please help support this by filling in each night your student reads (they can help with filling in too!). Keep in mind that this can be the books I send home in their reading bags, a book of choice from home (that is a good fit), or even E-Books like Raz Kids or Epic (more details on both of these will come home next week)! The best way a student can truly enjoy reading is by letting THEM choose what books they would like to read to you that night for about 15-20 minutes. Happy Reading!
