Did you take the time to chat with your student about their Report Card? It's beneficial for parents and children to have a positive and constructive discussion after getting the report card to open up communication about their academic/habits of mind progress. Ask your student how they think they did and why. This would be a great time to have them reflect with the 1-4 learning target scale! *Please return and sign the EMPTY report card envelopes*
Plan for Next Year?
As mentioned in Mr. Knapp’s Salem Scoop, Salem is beginning to prepare for the next school year. With that, we need your help to know who is returning/not returning to Salem for the 2018-2019 school year. Please take a moment to fill in the Survey: https://goo.gl/bLzpzm
Thank you!
Spelling Review
We are done with practicing NEW Spelling words for the year! Therefore, now it is time to review our High Frequency Words :) We will break up the words across the next 3 weeks and students will be tested on about 25 words each week. This sounds like A LOT, but keep in mind we have been practicing these all year. It may be best to look at the list and focus on the "trickier" words for your student. When doing the Spelling Menu homework, feel free to pick and choose which words your student really needs to practice instead of all of them! We appreciate any home support you can offer as we get ready to be 2nd and 3rd Grader Spellers :)
Dress Code
With warmer temperatures, please keep in mind that flip flops cannot be worn to school; all shoes must have a back on them. Students should still come to school with a coat as it can still be chilly when classrooms take a morning recess. A complete copy of our Dress Code can be found on page 14 in our Parent/Student handbook: https://goo.gl/qpE7YE
Passion Project
Something exciting is happening in our classroom! Last week I introduced your students to the word *Passion* and about creating a Passion Project. We listened to the story of 9-year-old Caine Monroy who created his own Passion Project of a cardboard arcade! http://cainesarcade.com/ This week, we will create Heart Maps to get students thinking about what they love to do, what they are good at, and what interests them! Stay tuned for more information on this exciting endeavor we will be taking on these last few weeks of school :)
