Watch D.O.G.’s
Salem’s Watch D.O.G.’s (Dads of Great Students) will host our annual kickoff meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Salem Cafeteria. Last year was our first year for the Watch D.O.G.’s program and it was a great success. The goal of this program is to “improve the wellbeing of all children by inspiring and equipping men to be more effectively involved in the lives of children.” That said this is a Coyote Call Out for all of our Dad’s, Grandad’s, Uncles, and important men in the lives of Salem Students. On October 8 we will host a training session, snacks and water included, for all interested “dad’s”. At the session we will share with you what a Watch D.O.G. does while volunteering at Salem and provide you the opportunity to sign up for a day to be at school. What is the commitment? We are asking that every “dad” find one day during the school year to volunteer at Salem.
I hope to see you along with one of your buddies on October 8, 2019. If you are a veteran Watch D.O.G. feel free to join us to share your experience and reserve your Friday!

I have invited your students to begin bringing a book of choice from home that they would like to read to the class. On Monday-Thursday afternoon, students have the opportunity to read aloud to the class. This must be a book from home that they have read independently at least 1x before, that they feel confident with. These books will be placed in the Daily Reader Bin and will remain there until it is their day to read. If a student does not finish the book they are reading, they are welcome to be added back to the Daily Reader list to continue another time! This is a fun way to build a strong reading community in our classroom and I look forward to seeing your student shine :)
Happy Birthday to Hank on October 7th!
