Did you take the time to chat with your First Grader about their Report Card? It's beneficial for parents and children to have a positive and constructive discussion after getting the report card to open up communication about their academic/habits of mind progress. Ask your students how they think they did and why. This would be a great time to have them reflect with the 1-4 learning target scale! They did bring home a self-reflection page to start the conversation about what they are the best at, need help with, favorite time of the day, and what they have learned. *Please return and sign report card envelopes*
Reading Response Pages
I will begin sending home Response Pages with all reading groups this week. This is a page found in your student's home reading bag. It includes: title of books, book rating, comprehension strategy, and new/interesting words. Each week this will be another component to the reading they are doing at home which reflects the conversations about reading we have in the classroom. We will complete some of it in class and the rest should be completed at home. I will collect when I meet with their reading group the following week! Let the conversations begin :)
Bee Reward: PJ Day
Has your First Grader talked to you about the Bee contest going on at Salem? If not, ask them to explain it as I am sure they will have a much more exciting way to explain it than me :) The contest happens every week, and this past week our class won for First Grade! As a reward, they have chosen a PJ Day which will happen this Thursday :)
