The SLMA review guide was sent home with your child last week. This review is optional, yet will help your child prepare for the assessment. A great way to review is to break up the packet and complete so many pages each day or pick and choose which topics are most difficult for your child and focus on those concepts. Our class will be taking this assessment the week of January 23. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Box Tops
The Box Top contest is coming to a close! Box tops eligible for the contest can be sent in from now until January 20th. Be sure to label them with Mrs. Wilson so we get credit for them. Thanks for supporting Salem!
Career Days/When I Grow Up Day
To wrap up our Economics unit for Social Studies, the First Grades are hosting a Career Day with parent volunteers AND a "When I Grow Up" dress up day! Some dates for this are:
-Thursday, January 19: Career Day Part 2 AND 'When I Grow Up" Dress up Day
-Friday, January 20: Career Day Part 3
Thank You to Mr. Wiersbe and Mrs. Burdick for volunteering for our Career Days!
Empty Cereal Boxes Needed
We will be using empty cereal boxes to decorate and store our Valentines in the near future. Please send in any empty ones you may have! Also, I am looking for a volunteer that would be willing to come in the week of February 6-10 to cover the cereal boxes with white paper for us to be able to decorate them. Let me know if you are interested in this! Thanks.

Flashlight Friday
Starting this Friday, EVERY Friday will be Flashlight Friday! Yes, we will be using flashlights throughout the day every Friday! We will have the lights turned down to get cozy during reading, writing, and math while using a flashlight:) I invite students to bring in flashlights to school on Friday morning and they will come home with your student every Friday as well. Please make sure to label your student's flashlight so they get home safely. (they may keep these in their backpack but they may NOT keep them in the classroom).
