The First Grade Informance will be on Thursday, April 11 at 6pm in the Salem Gym. Please have your child arrive to our classroom at 5:45pm.
Students are not expected to wear any particular costume or colors for this program. Please have your child wear nice, school-appropriate clothing. Your child will be standing (and moving!) on risers and we want everyone to be safe and comfortable. See you Thursday!
PTO Bunny Hop
Have you registered your child for the Salem Bunny Hop yet? The PTO's biggest fundraiser is kicking off and the PTO needs your support. Our goal is to raise $10,000! On April 18th students will take part in the Bunny Hop event during the school day. The fun event will include obstacles and running laps. Leading up to this event students will fund raise to help hit this goal. This year Salem is partnering with FundHub, powered by Get Movin’ Crew. This online portal gives us an online partnership to expand beyond our own community and reach the world for donation support through online student fundraising web pages. This allows us to accept credit/debit card donations from all over the world, in addition to cash & checks more locally. Information has been sent home and emailed with instructions on how to register your child. Check out the various incentives your child can earn. Our top overall student fundraiser wins a (4) pack of Disney World tickets!!!

Word Work Check
I will be continuing Word Work Checks this week with students to check their knowledge of spelling the past few weeks high frequency words correctly. I do recommend practicing the below words(or trickiest ones) with your First Grader. Thank you for your support!

Reading Bags/Assessments
I will be collecting your student's Reading Bag this week. I will be assessing students individually in order to share that information with you on Report Cards. Continue having your child read Good Fit books to you. Raz-Kids (let me know if you need a login reminder) and Epic(email was sent back in January) are great options in addition to the Library and books at home.
The Great Poetry Race
April is Poetry Month! We will be reading poetry as well as creating our own poetry. One fun activity is The Great Poetry Race which will be a friendly competition of reading poetry to family and friends. A note will be coming home on Monday so stay tuned and get ready to listen to your little First Grade poets :)
We are Caring Coyotes
Before break, we met with Coyote Clubs and began our focus on: Caring Coyotes are THINKING FLEXIBLY. There will be ways throughout the month where we will be highlighting books we read and activities to practice these qualities. A few places where you can follow our learning is on the Sideblog, Twitter, and Facebook.
