I will be collecting reading bags and reading group books from students on Friday. Therefore, they will not be bringing books home and to school everyday. I will still be checking reading logs everyday to keep that consistency for students. This is a great transition time to make sure your student is still reading every day even though they will not have books from me to bring home. If you are lacking books at home during the last few weeks of school and would like some to borrow please let me know and I would be happy to send some home for your student.
Summer Reading Program
A note from Mr. Metcalf and our Reading Recovery teachers Mrs. Jurado and Mrs. Raines went home with students on Friday. Salem Elementary offers a summer reading program for students where they are able to select books based on their interests and reading level. I highly encourage taking advantage of this easy way to make sure your student keeps reading all summer long to keep up the gains they have made this year. Permission slips are due Friday, May 23rd. Let me know if you need another slip sent home.
Teacher for an Hour
Permission slips went home last Thursday for students to experience what it is like to be "teacher for an hour." This is a great opportunity for students to take on a leader position and compile all the Habits of Mind we have been striving towards this school year while teaching to a small group of peers. All interested students should turn permission slips in by Wednesday, May 21. Let me know if you need another slip sent home.
