If you have not gotten a chance yet to sign up to be a volunteer in the classroom, this will be the last week to pass along your availability for the year to me. In the next week or so I will send an email to those who have signed up and give you some options for volunteering :)
You can find the sign up on the Parent page of our classroom website: http://wilsonh.weebly.com/parents.html
If anything changes with your volunteer availability throughout the year, just get in contact with me!
Daily Reader
I have invited your students to begin bringing a book of choice from home that they would like to read to the class. On Monday-Thursday afternoon, students have the opportunity to read aloud to the class. This must be a book from home that they have read independently at least 1x before, that they feel confident with. These books will be placed in the Daily Reader Bin and will remain there until it is their day to read. If a student does not finish the book they are reading, they are welcome to be added back to the Daily Reader list to continue another time! This is a great way to build a strong reading community in our classroom and I look forward to seeing your student shine :)
NWEA MAP Assessment
We will complete the ELA and Math MAP(Measures of Academic Progress) Assessments on Wednesday, September 27th and Thursday, September 28th. On these days, in particular, it is important that your child is well rested, has eaten a healthy breakfast, and is on-time to school. Students are encouraged to continue to bring a water bottle and healthy snack to school.

*FIRST GRADE ONLY* Addition/Subtraction Fact Fluency
A note will be coming home with your student on Monday about the following. We are going to begin exploring addition and subtraction facts. To strive for mastery of facts, we will focus on one fact family each week(alternating addition and subtraction) and assess student's mastery every Friday. To start, this Friday we will assess the family: +0 and -0. These will NOT be timed. The goal is for your student to score a 90% or above (18/20). Your support and help at home with this will be a huge benefit as we practice these throughout the school year. Thank you!
